Managed Database Hosting Compared: AtrbCode vs DigitalOcean vs Supabase

Last checked: October 2026, against each provider's public pricing pages (sources below).

Three ways to get a database you do not have to run yourself: a budget managed database, a major cloud's managed service, and a Postgres-based app platform. Here is how they compare, including where each one is the better choice.

Where each one wins

AtrbCode

The lowest price by far for small projects: $1.50 a month for MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL or Redis-compatible Valkey (MongoDB from $2.50) with TLS, nightly backups, one-click restore, SQL console, IP allow-list and a read-only user. Best for bots, side projects, small stores and apps that do not need high availability.

DigitalOcean

A large cloud with many regions, more engines (including Kafka and OpenSearch), point-in-time recovery and optional standby nodes for automatic failover. Best for production systems that need high availability or must sit next to other cloud servers; from $15.15 a month.

Supabase

Postgres plus an app platform (authentication, file storage, instant APIs) and a generous free tier for prototypes. Best if you want those extras; production use starts at $25 a month on Pro, and free projects pause after a week without activity.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest managed MySQL or PostgreSQL database?

Among the services compared here, AtrbCode starts at $1.50 a month for MariaDB, MySQL 8.4 or PostgreSQL with 1 GB of storage and nightly backups. DigitalOcean starts at $15.15 a month and Supabase Pro at $25 a month; Supabase also has a free tier that pauses inactive projects.

Do I need high availability for my database?

Most bots, side projects and small stores do not: nightly backups and fast restore are enough. Businesses that cannot accept a few minutes of downtime should choose a service with standby nodes, such as DigitalOcean's.

Can I move my database from another host?

Yes. Export it as a .sql file (mysqldump or pg_dump) and import it in the AtrbCode dashboard; we save the current state first.

MySQL or PostgreSQL: which should I choose?

Use what your framework or tutorial expects. MySQL/MariaDB suits PHP and many Discord bot guides; PostgreSQL suits Django, Prisma and advanced SQL. AtrbCode offers MariaDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL at the same price.

Is there a cheap managed MongoDB or Redis?

AtrbCode runs MongoDB 8.0 from $2.50 a month (Standard, 512 MB RAM) and Valkey 8, the open-source Redis fork that works with every Redis client, from $1.50 a month, both with TLS, nightly backups and one-click restore. DigitalOcean also offers managed MongoDB and Valkey, at higher prices; Supabase is PostgreSQL only.
