What is a managed database?

A MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or Valkey (Redis compatible) server that we run, secure and back up for you. You get a host, port, database name, username and password, and connect from any app, website or Discord bot. No server to install or maintain.

How much does it cost?

Mini is $1.50 a month (256 MB RAM, 1 GB storage), Standard $2.50 (512 MB, 3 GB) and Plus $4.00 (1 GB, 8 GB). Every plan has the same features. Cancel any time.

Which database engines can I choose?

Five: MariaDB 11.4 and MySQL 8.4 (MySQL tools and code, PHP, WordPress-style apps, many Discord bot tutorials), PostgreSQL 16 (Django, Prisma, advanced SQL), MongoDB 8.0 (JSON documents, Mongoose and Motor; Standard plan and up because it needs more memory) and Valkey 8 (Redis compatible: caches, sessions, leaderboards, queues and rate limits). You choose per database, at the same price.

Is Valkey the same as Redis?

Valkey is the open-source fork of Redis, run by the Linux Foundation. It speaks the same protocol, so redis-py, ioredis, node-redis, Jedis and other Redis clients work unchanged. Connections are always encrypted (rediss://).

Can I connect from outside, from my own app?

Yes. Every database is reachable at db.atrb.net on its own port, from any app, server or your computer, with TLS encryption. You can also restrict access to your own IP addresses.

How are backups done?

Automatically every night, kept for 7 days. You can also make a backup any time, download it (.sql.gz for SQL engines, a mongodump archive for MongoDB, an RDB snapshot for Valkey), restore any backup with one click, and import your own dump. Before every restore we save the current state first.

Is my data safe?

Each database runs in its own isolated container with its own user and a long random password stored encrypted. Connections can be encrypted with TLS (and you can require it), the admin account cannot log in from outside, and you can allow only your own IP addresses. Console queries and imports run in a sealed, network-less helper with your own login, never with admin rights.

Can I use it with my Discord bot?

Yes. One click in the dashboard saves your database address as the DATABASE_URL secret of any of your AtrbCode Discord bots.

What happens if I run out of storage?

We email you at 90%. Above 125% of the plan we stop the database after an hour so the server's disk cannot fill up; you can start it again, clean up or move to a bigger plan.

Where are the databases hosted?

In Frankfurt, Germany, run by Atrb Services Limited (UK company 17226687).

How do I cancel?

Press Cancel plan in the dashboard. The database keeps running until the end of the month you paid for. After a plan ends we keep your data and a final backup for 14 days.
